Tamir Hayman (also spelled Tamir Heyman), born in 1969, is a prominent Israeli military officer and national security expert who holds the rank of Aluf (Major General) in the IDF reserves. He began his service in IDF intelligence units and advanced through various command positions, including commander of the IDF military colleges and commander of the Northern Corps. He served as head of the Military Intelligence Directorate (AMAN) from 2010 to 2013, from 2016 to 2018, and again from 2018 to 2021, overseeing Israel's military intelligence operations during periods of heightened regional tensions. Following this tenure, he transitioned to become Israel's National Security Advisor, a position he previously held and currently holds, providing strategic counsel to the Prime Minister on defense and security matters. In addition to his governmental roles, he serves as executive director of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), a leading Israeli think tank focused on policy research in defense, diplomacy, and regional security, and is the current president of IDC Herzliya. His expertise in intelligence and strategic affairs has positioned him as an influential figure in Israel's security establishment, contributing to both operational decisions and public discourse on national threats, including responses to contemporary challenges such as cyber threats, terrorism, and geopolitical shifts in the Middle East.
