John Guandolo is a former U.S. Marine Corps officer and FBI Special Agent who, after serving 12 years with the FBI, resigned in 2008 amid an internal investigation into allegations of professional misconduct. He is the founder of Understanding the Threat (UTT), a consulting and counterterrorism training organization that provides instruction to law enforcement, military personnel, and private citizens. Guandolo's curriculum centers on countering what he describes as the "jihadi threat," Islamic doctrine, Sharia law, and the alleged influence of the Muslim Brotherhood within the United States. His work focuses on educating audiences about Islamic extremism, including training on the Muslim Brotherhood, Sharia threats, and jihadist networks. Guandolo asserts that many mainstream Muslim organizations in the U.S. are part of a covert network aiming to undermine American society. His views have attracted significant criticism from civil rights groups and counter-extremism experts who accuse him of promoting Islamophobia, anti-Muslim conspiracy theories, and contributing to the demonization of Muslim communities. Despite ongoing controversies, Guandolo remains active as a trainer and speaker and maintains connections with other anti-Muslim activists and conservative organizations.
