About
Yinon Magal (born April 27, 1969) is an Israeli journalist, television presenter, former politician, and host on Channel 14, a right-leaning news network. Born and raised in Bat Yam, he attended high school at the Hebrew University Secondary School in Jerusalem. During his mandatory IDF service, Magal served in the elite Sayeret Matkal special forces unit and participated in the 1989 abduction of Hezbollah leader Abdel Karim Obeid in Lebanon. Growing up in a secular-liberal family, with his father a career military officer and his mother a medical secretary, Magal entered journalism reporting on Israeli settlements for Army Radio, later covering military affairs for Hadashot 10, anchoring news on Channel 1's 'Mabat LaHadashot' (View Edition), and serving as editor-in-chief of the Walla! news website until 2014. In December 2014, Magal entered politics, joining the Jewish Home party and serving as a Knesset member for most of 2015. His brief political tenure was marked by controversy, including a public outburst in Arabic against Arab lawmakers declaring 'There will be no Palestinian state from the river to the sea!' He resigned from the Knesset in November 2015 following sexual harassment allegations. Described as a 'ratings-chasing media wizard' akin to MAGA figures, Magal has been criticized for aggressive media tactics and polarizing rhetoric, such as screaming at journalists during panels. Currently, he anchors 'The Patriots' on Channel 14 (Israel's upstart equivalent to Fox News) and co-hosts a daily radio program on 103fm with Ben Caspit. He has interviewed figures like Yaakov Amidror and is recognized for challenging Israel's left-wing media dominance, earning accolades like Man of the Year 5783 from the Jewish Press.
