Yaakov Amidror (born May 15, 1948) is a retired Israeli Major General who served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for over three decades, rising to senior positions including head of the Research Department of Israeli military intelligence. From April 2011 to November 2013, he was Israel's National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, immediately preceding Yossi Cohen, and concurrently headed the National Security Council. Specializing in intelligence, strategic affairs, counterterrorism, and regional threats, Amidror is known for his conservative security perspectives, emphasizing robust defense strategies and regional stability. Following his military and government service, he transitioned to academia and think tanks, advocating for strong Israeli security policies including support for settlements. He is a key figure in the Israeli defense and intelligence communities and currently serves as the Anne and Greg Rosshandler Senior Fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategic Studies (JISS). He has also been affiliated with the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and several U.S. think tanks promoting Israeli security perspectives. Amidror continues to influence Israeli policy discussions through his expertise and advocacy.
