Born on September 6, 1952, William D. Snyder is an American Republican politician and former law enforcement officer. He began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Miami-Dade Police Department (formerly Metro-Dade Police Department). Snyder earned an Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Miami-Dade Community College in 1976. He later attended the FBI Academy at the University of Virginia in 1999 and graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2010. Snyder entered politics as a member of the Florida House of Representatives, serving from 2006 to 2012. In 2012, he was elected Sheriff of Martin County, Florida, a position he held from 2013 until 2025. During his tenure, he led major human trafficking investigations.
