About
Robert Kraft is an American billionaire businessman and philanthropist, best known as the chairman and CEO of the Kraft Group, a diversified holding company with interests in manufacturing, real estate, sports, and investments, and owner of the New England Patriots NFL franchise since 1994 and the New England Revolution MLS team. He also owns Gillette Stadium. Born on June 5, 1941, in Brookline, Massachusetts, to a Jewish family, he grew up in a modest household; his father was a hat and coat manufacturer. He attended Columbia University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1963, and later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1965. Kraft began his career at the Rand-Whitney Group, a paper and packaging company, which he acquired via leveraged buyout in 1968, forming the foundation of his business empire; he also founded International Forest Products in 1972. Under his leadership, the Patriots achieved unprecedented success, winning six Super Bowl championships between 2002 and 2019. He has four sons from his first marriage—Jonathan, Daniel, Josh, and David—with Jonathan serving as president of the Kraft Group and the New England Patriots. Kraft's philanthropy is deeply tied to his Jewish heritage and pro-Israel advocacy, focusing on Jewish and Israel-related causes; he is the founder of the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS), known for the 'Blue Square' campaign against Jewish hate, and with his first wife, Myra Hiatt Kraft—whom he married in 1963 and who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2011 after a long battle—was actively involved in the family's philanthropy and Jewish causes; together they established the Kraft Foundation, donating hundreds of millions (totaling nearly $1 billion in charitable commitments) to causes in education, health, Jewish community building, and support for Israel. A major donor to AIPAC, Kraft has been influential in pro-Israel lobbying, frequently visiting the country, received awards from Jewish organizations, and maintains a high-profile, long-standing friendship with Donald Trump, despite historically supporting Democratic candidates. He was involved in a civil dispute over a 1982 family trust restructuring and access to assets from 2012 to 2013. In 2019, he faced a high-profile legal scandal when charged with solicitation of prostitution at a Florida day spa in Jupiter linked to human trafficking; the charges were dropped in 2020 after evidence suppression and challenges to the video evidence, receiving widespread media coverage as a notable personal controversy. Kraft remarried ophthalmologist Dana Blumberg in a surprise ceremony in New York City in October 2022. With an estimated net worth exceeding $11 billion, he remains a key figure in business, sports, and political influence networks, particularly in Jewish and conservative causes.
