Tom Gores, born July 31, 1964, is an American billionaire businessman, financier, and businessperson of Arab American descent. His family relocated to Genesee, Michigan, in 1968, where he worked his first job stocking shelves at his uncle's grocery store. While attending Genesee High School, he participated in sports as a defensive back in football, middle infielder in baseball, and guard in basketball. He is the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Platinum Equity, a global private equity firm headquartered in Beverly Hills, California, which he established in 1995. The firm manages over $48 billion in assets under management and maintains a diverse portfolio of operating companies spanning industrial and consumer goods sectors, among others. Gores built his career starting as an active investor in smaller businesses before founding Platinum Equity. He expanded into sports ownership in June 2011 when Platinum Equity acquired the National Basketball Association's Detroit Pistons, becoming the sole owner in 2015. As of July 2024, his net worth is estimated at $9.1 billion. He has an institutional affiliation with Sami Sagol.
