Susan Diane Wojcicki (July 5, 1968 – August 9, 2024) was an American business executive born in Santa Clara County, California, to Polish-American parents. Her father, Stanley Wojcicki, was a physicist at Stanford University, and her mother, Esther Wojcicki, was a journalist and educator. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, she attended Harvard University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and literature in 1990. After working briefly at Intel, her career took a pivotal turn in 1998 when she rented her Menlo Park garage to Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and married Dennis Troper that same year. She joined Google in 1999 as one of its first marketing executives, rising through the ranks to oversee key areas like consumer products and advertising. Following Google's acquisition of YouTube in 2006, she played a crucial role in integrating the platform. Wojcicki served as CEO of YouTube from February 2014 to February 2023, overseeing significant growth in users and revenue, content policies, monetization, and navigating challenges like content moderation during the COVID-19 pandemic and a period of increased scrutiny on misinformation.
