About
Sean Patrick Hannity (born December 30, 1961, in New York City) is an American conservative television host, nationally syndicated talk radio personality, author, and political commentator. He is a prominent Fox News host and contributor, an influential conservative commentator, and a close associate of former President Donald Trump, with strong ties to Republican leadership. Hannity is known for his influential role in right-wing politics and media, shaping Republican talking points through his right-wing commentary and for his staunch support of Republican causes and figures, particularly Trump and Trump-era policies. He promotes these policies, regularly interviews administration officials, and frequently features allies such as Prager.
Hannity grew up in a working-class family as the youngest of four siblings; his father, Hugh Hannity, was a World War II veteran and family court officer, and his mother, Lillian (née Flynn), worked as a stenographer and later corrections officer. He attended Catholic schools and briefly studied at multiple universities without completing a degree. Beginning his career in the 1980s as a house painter and contractor, he entered broadcasting in 1991 with radio work in Huntsville, Alabama, moved to Atlanta in 1992, and joined Fox News in 1996 as co-host of Hannity & Colmes with Alan Colmes. After that show ended in 2009, he launched his solo prime-time television program Hannity, a long-running Fox News program. Simultaneously, he has hosted the nationally syndicated radio program The Sean Hannity Show since 1996, making him one of the most prominent conservative voices in American media.
His commentary promotes national security hawkishness, strong pro-Israel stances, anti-Islamist viewpoints, climate skepticism, social conservatism, and right-wing or far-right views on issues such as immigration, national security, and cultural conservatism. He has authored books including Let Freedom Ring: Why a Tea Party Can Save America (2009) and Conservative Victory: Defeating Obama’s Big Government (2010). Hannity's commentary has drawn criticism for promoting conspiracy theories, such as those related to the 2020 election, blurring lines between journalism and activism, and controversies including allegations in 2017 of using his Fox News platform to promote his personal real estate business, sexual harassment allegations in 2007 and 2018 (which he denied), and a 2018 defamation lawsuit that was dismissed.
Financially successful with an estimated net worth of $250 million derived from his media career and real estate investments, Hannity divorced his wife Jill Rhodes, a former Fox News producer, in 2019 after 26 years of marriage; they have two children, Sean Jr. and Merriah. He remains a key influencer in conservative networks with close ties to Trump and other right-wing figures, although frequently criticized by media watchdogs for ethical lapses and spreading misinformation.
