Scott M. Stringer is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party, best known for his roles in New York City governance. He served as the 44th New York City Comptroller from 2014 to 2021, where he focused on fiscal oversight, auditing city agencies, and advocating for pension fund investments in affordable housing and renewable energy. Prior to that, Stringer was Manhattan Borough President from 2006 to 2013, promoting economic development, historic preservation, and community engagement in the borough. His career began in the New York State Assembly, representing the 67th district from 1987 to 2005, during which he chaired committees on corrections, election law, and libraries. Born and raised in New York City, Stringer graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Cornell University in 1982. He has been active in progressive causes, including campaign finance reform and transparency in government. In 2021, Stringer ran for Mayor of New York City in the Democratic primary, emphasizing fiscal responsibility and social equity, but withdrew after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced, which he denied. Post-comptroller, he has continued involvement in public policy and advocacy.
