About
Ronald Dion DeSantis (born September 14, 1978) is an American politician, attorney, and the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. A member of the Republican Party and a prominent rising figure within it, he previously served as a U.S. representative for Florida's 6th congressional district from 2013 to 2018. He was a candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination but withdrew and endorsed Donald Trump; his 2024 presidential run was endorsed by figures such as Rubin, who moved to Florida specifically citing DeSantis's leadership. He is known for his conservative governance and culture-war policies, which have made combating 'woke' ideology in education a centerpiece of his political brand, including eliminating DEI programs at Florida public universities. His stances also encompass COVID-19 response, immigration, broader cultural issues, and his pro-Israel positions. In 2022, he spoke at the Jewish Leadership Conference, an event that drew protesters.
