Peter Richard Orszag, born on December 16, 1968, is an American economist, banker, and former government official. He earned a bachelor's degree summa cum laude in economics from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar. Orszag's public service career began in the Clinton administration as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy and Senior Economist and Senior Adviser on the Council of Economic Advisers. He later served as director of the Congressional Budget Office from 2007 to 2008, providing nonpartisan analysis during a pivotal economic period, and as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2010. Orszag has authored hundreds of published articles and several books on economics and policy. He is recognized for his significant influence in both government and business sectors, with prior senior positions in finance, including as CEO of Financial Advisory at Lazard Frères & Co. LLC, and currently serves as CEO of Lazard.
