About
Newton D. Becker (1928–2012) was an American philanthropist, accountant, and investor. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he faced anti-Semitism in his youth, which later influenced his philanthropic focus on Jewish and pro-Israel causes. He graduated from Glenville High School, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Kent State University, served in the U.S. Army in Germany, and began his career as an accountant at Price Waterhouse. Becker developed a successful CPA exam preparatory course and invested in innovative technologies, including alternative energy through Electric Fuel, a company developing batteries for electric cars. In his later years, he co-founded the Newton and Rochelle Becker Charitable Trust and the Newton D. and Rochelle F. Becker Foundation with his wife, Rochelle, focusing on charitable giving. The trust supported conservative causes, pro-Israel initiatives, anti-Islam organizations (including major donations to ACT for America), and Jewish education. He resided in Los Angeles toward the end of his life and died on January 2, 2012, at age 83 after a lengthy illness.
