George Mark Malloch-Brown, Baron Malloch-Brown KCMG PC (born 16 September 1953), is a British political strategist, diplomat, and former government minister. He began his career as a journalist and communications consultant before joining the United Nations, where he served in various high-level roles, including as Deputy Secretary-General and Chief of Staff under Kofi Annan in 2006. Malloch-Brown was appointed a life peer in 2007 as Baron Malloch-Brown of St Leonard’s Forest in the County of West Sussex, entering the House of Lords. He served in Gordon Brown’s cabinet as Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, overseeing issues related to Asia, Africa, and the United Nations. Currently on leave of absence from the House of Lords, Lord Malloch-Brown has been President of the Open Society Foundations since 2021. His career spans international development, diplomacy, and politics, with notable positions including roles in the World Bank and as Vice-Chairman of Soros Fund Management. He is recognized for his work on global governance, human rights, and open society initiatives.
