About
Koret Israel Economic Development Funds (KIEDF) is an Israeli nonprofit organization (amutah NGO) funded by American donors, including the Koret Foundation of San Francisco. Established in 1994, it promotes economic development and free-market reforms in Israel by operating as a revolving loan fund that deploys philanthropic capital efficiently for private sector growth and job creation. KIEDF provides loan guarantees to banks for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) unable to secure reasonable credit terms, as well as direct microloans through programs like SAWA for Arab-Israeli women entrepreneurs (over 11,000 loans totaling ~$24 million), support for Ethiopian immigrants, and targeted initiatives for periphery regions, COVID recovery, mortgages, and war-affected businesses. Each philanthropic dollar leverages up to seven times in credit, with cumulative impact including over $385 million (NIS 1.5 billion) in financing via more than 17,000 loans to 15,000 businesses, sustaining nearly 60,000 jobs.
