About
Jennie Ilene Litvack was a Canadian-American economist and skilled musician, native of Montreal. She was particularly noted for her trumpet playing from an early age, taught by jazz legend Dizzy Gillespie, who considered her his god-daughter; she also became proficient in playing the shofar, serving as its Mistress for the Adas Israel congregation in Washington, D.C., and was a horn player. Litvack pursued higher education in the United States, earning an undergraduate degree from Duke University, where she met her future husband, Rob Satloff, whom she married in 1990. She later obtained master's and doctoral degrees from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. Her professional career spanned two decades at the World Bank, including specialized roles such as Lead Economist for Human Development in Latin America and Lead Economist for Morocco. The couple resided in international locations including Oxford, England; Yaoundé, Cameroon; Zichron Ya'akov, Israel; and Rabat, Morocco, in addition to the Washington, D.C. area. She was associated with the Washington Institute, as noted in their memoriam. Litvack passed away on June 27, 2019, at age 55.
