Jeff Broin (born August 25, 1965) is an American businessman and the CEO and chairman of POET LLC, the world's largest producer of biofuels. He grew up on a family farm in Minnesota, where his father pioneered ethanol production in the early 1980s, shaping Broin's career path. He earned a degree in Agricultural Business from the University of Wisconsin, providing foundational agribusiness knowledge. In the 1980s, Broin founded what would become POET LLC, starting as a small ethanol plant and expanding it into a global biofuels leader with over 30 facilities across the Midwest, emphasizing sustainable energy solutions derived from corn. Broin has deep roots in Iowa's corn-based ethanol industry and has been a vocal advocate for biofuels policy, serving as founding chairman of Growth Energy, the nation's largest biofuel trade association, where he lobbied for higher ethanol blends and supportive legislation. His leadership has positioned POET as a key player in renewable energy, with financial ties to influential figures like Senator Charles Grassley. Broin resides in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, with his wife Tammie, to whom he has been married for over three decades; they have three children, including daughters Alyssa and Miranda. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service from South Dakota State University for his contributions to agriculture and energy.
