About
Jean-Luc Didier Henri Brunel (1946–2022) was a prominent French modeling scout and agency executive whose career spanned over four decades. He rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s as a director at Karin Models in Paris, where he was credited with discovering supermodels such as Carol Alt, Christy Turlington, and Milla Jovovich. However, his professional success was overshadowed by persistent allegations of sexual misconduct, first brought to mainstream attention in a 1988 '60 Minutes' investigation that accused him of drugging and abusing models. In the late 1990s, after being banned from European modeling circles following a BBC undercover report on industry abuse, Brunel relocated to the United States. There, he founded MC2 Model Management in 2005, with offices in New York, Miami, and Tel Aviv, using a $1 million line of credit provided by his close associate, financier Jeffrey Epstein. Brunel was a long-time associate and alleged co-conspirator of Epstein in procuring young women, with evidence of financial ties including Epstein's investments in MC2, and he was frequently listed in flight logs for Epstein’s private jet (at least 25 flights) and recorded over 70 visits to Epstein during his 2008 incarceration in Florida. He was accused of using his position to procure and traffic dozens of underage girls and young women for sexual exploitation as part of Epstein's international sex trafficking network, including allegations of rape, sexual assault, supplying minors to Epstein's properties, and targeting vulnerable aspiring models, particularly from Eastern Europe and South America. Accusers, most notably Virginia Giuffre, alleged that Brunel used his modeling agencies as a front to recruit and traffic underage girls to Epstein and his powerful circle. He faced lawsuits from victims and was criticized for exploiting these individuals. Following Epstein’s 2019 death, Brunel went into hiding but was arrested in December 2020 at Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport on charges of rape of minors, sexual harassment, and organized sex trafficking, and was held in pretrial detention at La Santé Prison. On February 19, 2022, he died by suicide in his cell, hanging himself, just before his trial was set to begin, mirroring the death of Epstein and sparking controversy over prison monitoring and the broader Epstein investigation, leaving many victims without the resolution of a completed trial and overshadowing his modeling career legacy.
