About
Ghislaine Noelle Marion Maxwell is a British-American former socialite and convicted sex offender and sex trafficker who was a longtime associate, girlfriend, and co-conspirator of financier Jeffrey Epstein, frequently described as 'Number 2' or 'right-hand' in his hierarchy and a central figure within his inner circle. The youngest daughter of media tycoon Robert Maxwell, she was a prominent figure in London and New York high society. She moved to the United States after her father's death in 1991 and played a central role in managing Epstein's households and trafficking network, acting as the primary recruiter and manager. She recruited and groomed underage girls, including minors such as Virginia Giuffre, for sexual abuse between 1994 and 2004. Maxwell recruited Giuffre after meeting her while Giuffre was studying massage therapy and introduced accusers to Jean-Luc Brunel as part of the trafficking network. Her 2021 trial revealed detailed testimony about her active participation in the abuse and management of Epstein's properties, including abuse at Zorro Ranch, with witnesses including pilots who flew Maxwell frequently testifying; Virginia Giuffre testified against Maxwell in this trial and was previously supervised by her. Maxwell has been accused of facilitating abuse and threatening victims' families. Arrested in July 2020, she was convicted in December 2021 on five of six federal counts, including sex trafficking of a minor and conspiracy charges, and sentenced in June 2022 to a 20-year prison term along with a $750,000 fine. She continues to maintain her innocence and has pursued appeals against her conviction, which concluded in October 2025 with the US Supreme Court's denial of her petition. Since 2025, Maxwell has been incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas, where she reportedly receives 'VIP' treatment, including unlimited supplies and recreational privileges. In early 2026, she became a focal point of the 'Epstein Files' release, which revealed flirtatious correspondence with Olympic powerbroker Casey Wasserman and deep ties to figures like Peter Mandelson. During a February 2026 House Oversight Committee deposition, Maxwell invoked the Fifth Amendment over 100 times but explicitly offered through her attorney to provide 'unfiltered truth' about the innocence of high-profile associates, including Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, in exchange for presidential clemency. This move has been widely characterized by lawmakers as a brazen campaign for a pardon while continuing to protect a network of at least 25 men and four unnamed co-conspirators mentioned in her previous legal filings. Her legal representation has included a lead defense attorney in defamation and sex-trafficking related civil matters.
