About
James Risen is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American investigative journalist known for his national security reporting, including exposing the NSA warrantless wiretapping program and covering intelligence failures related to Iraq and U.S. government activities. He currently serves as a senior national security correspondent for The Intercept, having previously worked at The New York Times as a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter focusing on intelligence issues, and earlier at the Los Angeles Times covering economics before shifting to national security and CIA matters. Risen began his career at the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette after earning a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in 1978, followed by positions at the Miami Herald and Detroit Free Press. He has authored or co-authored multiple books, including two on the Central Intelligence Agency and one addressing the American public debate on abortion, and was involved with First Look Institute's Press Freedom Defense Fund, providing legal support to journalists and whistleblowers.
