About
Jacklyn Sheryl 'Jacky' Rosen is an American politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Nevada since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously represented Nevada's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019, flipping a competitive Republican-held seat in the 2016 election. Born on August 2, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, Rosen was the first in her family to graduate from college. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1979 and later an associate degree in computing and information technology from Clark County Community College (now the College of Southern Nevada) in 1985. After moving to Las Vegas following her undergraduate studies, she worked as a waitress at Caesars Palace during summers and as a computer programmer and software developer for major companies in Southern Nevada, including Summa Corporation. Rosen later paused her career to care for her aging parents and in-laws amid their health challenges.
Before entering politics, Rosen was active in community and religious leadership, serving as president of Congregation Ner Tamid, the largest Reform synagogue in Nevada, for three years. Her political career began with her successful 2016 congressional bid, where she focused on issues like healthcare, education, and veterans' affairs. As a Senator, Rosen sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and has emphasized national security, particularly strengthening U.S.-Israel ties, including introducing the Iron Dome Funding Act. She continues to advocate for Nevada's interests in economic development, environmental protection, and social services, drawing on her background in technology and community service to build bipartisan relationships.
