About
Ian Maxwell (born 1 January 1956) is a British businessman, the son of publishing tycoon Robert Maxwell—who died mysteriously at sea in 1991 amid revelations of massive financial irregularities in his media empire—and the brother of Ghislaine Maxwell. Following his father's death, he managed family companies, serving as joint managing director of Maxwell Communications Corporation, and faced charges of criminal financial malpractice related to the alleged plundering of employee pension funds and other business practices. In the 1990s, he was acquitted of these fraud charges after a high-profile trial. Beyond his involvement in the family business, Maxwell is a co-founder of the think tank Combating Jihadist Terrorism, which focuses on counter-terrorism and security issues. His career has been overshadowed by the scandals surrounding his father's empire, but he has maintained a lower public profile since the acquittal.
