Hugh Joseph Hannity (March 6, 1925 – March 31, 1997) was an American family court officer and World War II veteran, best known as the father of conservative media personality Sean Hannity. Born in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Kings County, New York, to Irish immigrant parents Hugh and Margaret Ann (McConville) Hannity, he was their only child. His mother died two months after his birth, and he was raised in Brooklyn. Hannity served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a Radarman Third Class (RDM3c). After the war, he worked as a family court officer in New York, supporting judicial proceedings in family matters. He married Lillian Flynn and had four children, including Sean Patrick Hannity (born 1961). Hannity passed away at age 72 in Huntington Station, New York, and was buried at Long Island National Cemetery in East Farmingdale.
