Elisabeth Jenny Jeanne Maxwell (née Meynard) was a French-born scholar, historian, and researcher renowned for her work on the Holocaust and interfaith dialogue. Born on March 11, 1921, in Antibes, France, she grew up in a French family and later became a British citizen. In 1945, she married Robert Maxwell, the Czech-born British media tycoon and publisher, becoming his widow after his death in 1991; the couple had nine children, including Ghislaine Maxwell. She authored several books on topics including philosophy, intelligence, ethics, and Holocaust studies, such as 'The House of Strange Children' and works related to Holocaust research, as well as memoirs about her life with Maxwell. In 1987, she founded and edited the journal 'Holocaust and Genocide Studies,' contributing significantly to the field of genocide research. Following her husband's death, she focused on promoting interfaith understanding, earning accolades for her efforts to foster dialogue between Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities. She received an honorary fellowship from the Woolf Institute at Cambridge University and other awards for her humanitarian work. Elisabeth Maxwell passed away on August 7, 2013, in Oxford, England, leaving a legacy as a bridge-builder in academia and peace advocacy.
