David Jason Muir, born on November 8, 1973, in Syracuse, New York, to parents Ronald Muir and Pat Mills, is an American broadcast journalist. From a young age, he aspired to be a broadcast journalist, interning at local station WTVH-TV in Syracuse starting at age 14 and anchoring on Ithaca College's student TV station ICTVNews during his studies. A graduate of Ithaca College's Park School of Communications (class of 1995) with honors, Muir furthered his education at Georgetown University and the University of Salamanca in Spain. He began his professional career in local news at WCVB-TV in Boston before joining ABC News. Muir rose through the ranks at ABC, serving as weekend anchor and primary substitute for World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer. He succeeded Sawyer as sole anchor and managing editor of ABC World News Tonight on September 1, 2014, and also co-anchors the ABC News magazine 20/20. Based in New York City, he has built a reputation for in-depth reporting and interviewing high-profile figures.
