About
David L. Ganz was a multifaceted American attorney, politician, numismatist, author, and speaker, renowned for balancing a long-standing career in New Jersey municipal politics with global expertise in coin collecting. A lifelong resident of Fair Lawn, New Jersey, he served as a councilman and the 29th Mayor of Fair Lawn—the fourth largest municipality in Bergen County—from 1999 to 2005, and as a key figure on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Known as a steadfast Democrat, he advocated for local infrastructure and municipal efficiency. His legal career spanned litigation, municipal law, land use, and numismatic legislation, practicing with firms Ganz and Sivin, L.L.P., and Ganz and Hollinger, P.C., and often testifying before Congress on coinage matters, including his critical role in the legislative creation of the 50 State Quarters program, which modernized American coinage and generated significant revenue for the U.S. Treasury. In numismatics, Ganz reached the highest echelons of leadership as president of the American Numismatic Association (ANA) from 1993 to 1995 and former President of JINSA; he was a prolific author, penning over 3,000 articles and several definitive books on coin history and collecting, including 'The World of Coins and Coffee' and 'Planning Your Rare Coin Retirement.' His expertise led to numerous television appearances, including on programs such as The UnXplained. Additionally, he was a major donor to pro-Israel advocacy initiatives, holding leadership roles and providing financial support. Ganz passed away in late 2023, leaving a legacy as a dedicated public servant and titan of American numismatics.
