About
Charles F. Schusterman (1928–2000) was an American oil and gas entrepreneur and philanthropist, best known as the co-founder of Samson Resources Company and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Russian Jewish immigrant parents, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II before earning a degree in petroleum land management from the University of Oklahoma in 1951. He began his career as a landman and, with his wife Lynn Schusterman, whom he married in 1953, built Samson Resources into one of the largest privately held energy companies in the United States, with operations across the U.S., Canada, and other regions. Together, Charles and Lynn established the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation in 1985, which has contributed hundreds of millions of dollars to support education, Jewish community programs, leadership development, and initiatives like Birthright Israel in the U.S. and Israel. Known for a low-profile approach to philanthropy, Schusterman focused on impactful, long-term projects. He passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2000 at age 72, leaving a lasting legacy through his foundation and philanthropic work.
