About
William Stephen 'Bill' Belichick, born on April 16, 1952, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Steve Belichick, a longtime college football coach whose career greatly influenced his son, is a renowned football historian and tactician known for his deep knowledge of the game. He began his NFL coaching career in 1975 as a special assistant with the Baltimore Colts, later working with teams including the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos, and notably as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants under Bill Parcells, where he contributed to Super Bowl victories in 1987 and 1991. He served as head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 1991 to 1995, had a brief stint with the New York Jets, and then led the New England Patriots from 2000 to 2023, establishing a dynasty as a six-time Super Bowl champion as head coach. Regarded as one of the greatest coaches in American football history, he holds records for the most Super Bowl wins as a head coach (six) and a total of eight including his coordinator role. With 333 career regular-season wins, he stands just 14 short of the NFL all-time record. In 2024, Belichick took the head coaching position for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels football team. He has three children—Amanda, Stephen, and Brian—with his ex-wife Debby Clarke; his sons have pursued NFL coaching careers.
