Barbi Weinberg (1929–2024) was a pioneering figure in American Jewish leadership and pro-Israel advocacy. Born in 1929, she passed away on December 12, 2024, in Los Angeles at the age of 95. She co-founded the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) alongside her late husband, Larry Weinberg, who served as president of AIPAC, realizing their shared vision for pro-Israel policy research; she later served as its founding president and Chairman Emerita. Previously, she was vice president of AIPAC and, in 1973, became the first woman to lead a major American Jewish federation as president of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, blazing a trail for women in Jewish communal leadership. A key fundraiser, she founded Citizens Organized PAC and made significant contributions to Jewish philanthropy. She appeared on C-SPAN in 1988 and 1992 discussing Middle East policy issues.
