Alan Samuel Colmes (September 24, 1950 – February 23, 2017) was an American liberal political commentator, radio and television host, and blogger. He was best known for co-hosting the Fox News Channel program Hannity & Colmes from 1996 to 2009 alongside conservative Sean Hannity, providing a liberal counterpoint on a predominantly conservative network. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Colmes graduated from Hofstra University in 1971 and began his career as a stand-up comedian before transitioning to media in the late 1970s. He entered talk radio in 1979 and later hosted his own nationally syndicated late-night program, The Alan Colmes Show, on Fox News Radio. Throughout his career, he contributed to political and cultural discourse through blogging, media appearances, and authorship of books such as Red Hot Lies: How Liberalism Destroys the American Dream. Colmes also appeared in films and television, including documentaries like Seven Women, Seven Sins (1986) and Every 40 Years (2017), and was married to professor and author Jocelyn Crowley. He passed away at age 66 after a brief illness, leaving a legacy as a key figure in cable news who bridged ideological divides through civil discourse.
