Adelphi University is a private coeducational university located in Garden City, New York, United States, with additional centers in Downtown Brooklyn, Hudson Valley, and Suffolk County, as well as a virtual online campus for remote students. Founded as Adelphi College in 1896 through the efforts of Timothy Woodruff, former lieutenant governor of New York State, it was one of the earliest institutions to receive a charter from the Board of Regents of the State of New York for a coeducational college. The university has grown to enroll approximately 7,859 undergraduate and graduate students as of 2019, offering a range of academic programs including the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, named after alumnus Robert B. Willumstad, who served as president of Citigroup and briefly as CEO of American International Group.
