About
Yisrael Medad is an American-Israeli journalist, activist, and right-wing political commentator, born in New York City in 1947 to a Jewish family. As a teenager, he became religious, attended a religious high school, and joined the Betar Zionist youth movement in 1964. He earned a BA in Political Science from Yeshiva University in 1969 and a Master's degree in Civic and Democracy Education from Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2008. Medad immigrated to Israel in 1970 with his wife, initially living in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem where he served as Director of the Betar Students' Hostel. From 1975 to 1977, he was a Betar representative in the United Kingdom. In 1981, he and his family moved to the Israeli settlement of Shiloh, where he has resided since and become a prominent figure in the settler movement. His political roles include serving as a parliamentary aide to Knesset member Geula Cohen (1981-1992), adviser on International Affairs to cabinet minister Yuval Ne'eman (1981-1992), senior assistant to the Deputy Minister for Science, and legislative aide to various Knesset members. At the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, he was Director of Educational Programming and Information Resources from at least 2010 until his retirement in June 2017. He is a collaborator with Feiglin. He currently edits an English-language annotated anthology of Ze'ev Jabotinsky's writings and is a member of the Executive Board of Israel's Media Watch. He co-edited a collection of the Begin-Sadat correspondence related to the 1979 Israel-Egypt peace treaty and has been interviewed by the BBC and profiled in Haaretz.
