About
Yariv Gideon Levin (born June 22, 1969, in Haifa, Israel) is an Israeli lawyer and politician who has been a prominent member of the Likud party since entering politics. He currently serves as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice (since 2022), Minister of Interior, and Minister of Religious Services. Levin has held numerous government positions including Minister of Tourism (2013-2015), Minister of Aliyah and Integration (2015-2019), Minister of Internal Security (2020), and Speaker of the Knesset (2020-2021 and briefly in December 2022). As a qualified lawyer and advocate, he is known for his conservative stance and efforts to reform Israel's judicial system, particularly pushing legislation in 2023 to limit the powers of the Attorney General and Supreme Court, which sparked widespread protests and opposition from figures like former Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit. His tenure as Justice Minister has been marked by controversies over judicial overhaul legislation that critics argue undermines democratic checks and balances. Levin remains a key figure in Likud's leadership under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, influencing the party's right-wing agenda on issues like settlement expansion and legal reforms.
