Wang Qishan, born on July 19, 1948, in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, is a retired Chinese politician who served as Vice Premier of China (2008-2018) and later as Vice President (2018-2023). A key figure in anti-corruption campaigns under Xi Jinping as Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (2012-2017), he also played influential roles in economic policy, finance, and international relations. His career began after the Cultural Revolution, during which he worked in rural Shaanxi and joined the CCP in 1973. He held significant positions including deputy governor of the People's Bank of China, vice governor of Guangdong Province, party secretary of Hainan Province, and mayor/party secretary of Beijing (overseeing 2008 Olympics preparations). He contributed to China's WTO accession and managed U.S.-China relations during the global financial crisis.
