Vinod Khosla is an Indian-American billionaire businessman, venture capitalist, and co-founder of Sun Microsystems. Born on January 28, 1955, in Pune, India, to an Indian Army officer father from the 'officer caste,' he attended Mount St. Mary's School in New Delhi for elementary education. As a teenager, he became inspired by the founding of Intel, sparking his interest in entrepreneurship and technology. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi before attempting to launch a soy milk company in India, which failed due to refrigeration challenges, prompting his move to the United States. Khosla continued his education with a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Stanford University. Post-MBA, he briefly worked on electronic design automation ideas and co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982, revolutionizing computer workstations. After successful exits, he partnered at Kleiner Perkins before establishing Khosla Ventures in 2004 as its founder to support entrepreneurs in networking, software, alternative energy, sustainability, and diagnostics, including recent investments like Two Pore Guys.
