Vicki Lynn Miles-LaGrange (born September 30, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is a trailblazing American jurist, lawyer, politician, and former journalist who served as Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma from 2008 to 2015. She issued key rulings on civil rights cases during her tenure. A barrier-breaking figure, she was the first African-American woman elected to the Oklahoma Senate (1987-1993), the first African-American woman sworn in as United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma (1993), and the first African-American federal judge in the six states comprising the Tenth Circuit upon her appointment by President Bill Clinton in 1994. Her early career included work as a legislative aide, congressional intern for Speaker Carl Albert, law clerk to Judge Woodrow Bradley Seals, attorney at Arnold & Porter, and federal prosecutor. She earned her bachelor's degree from Vassar College (1974) and Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law after beginning her higher education at the University of Ghana. She assumed senior status in 2018 and is now inactive.
