United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3379, adopted in 1975, determined that 'Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination.' It was sponsored by 25 states, primarily from the Arab League and Muslim-majority countries, and chiefly supported by the Second World (Soviet bloc) and many African countries. The resolution was adopted nearly one year after Resolutions 3236 (recognizing the Question of Palestine and inviting PLO participation) and 3237 (granting PLO observer status following Yasser Arafat's 'Olive Branch Speech'). It equated Zionism with racism and was repealed in 1991 by Resolution 46/86. An official document is available at UNISPAL.
