About
Ukraine International Airlines PJSC (UIA) is the flag carrier and largest airline of Ukraine, established in early 1992 through an agreement between the Ukrainian Minister for Aviation and Guinness Peat Aviation, an Irish aircraft-leasing company. Initially co-founded as an international carrier for independent Ukraine, UIA operated as a public-private partnership with ties to government contracts. The airline expanded its network to over 40 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Asia from its main hub at Kyiv's Boryspil International Airport. Ownership evolved from government control to private ownership, with the Ukrainian government selling its majority stake in 2011. Due to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, UIA suspended all operations on February 24, 2022, and its fleet remains grounded at Boryspil International Airport. The airline's resumption depends on the end of the war, lifting of the airspace ban, and the condition of its aircraft fleet.
