About
The Torah u-Madda Journal is an academic publication founded in 1989 by Rabbi Norman Lamm, with Rabbi Jacob J. Schacter as founding editor. It is dedicated to the study of Torah and secular knowledge, publishing articles and occasionally review essays on the interaction between Judaism and general culture, reflecting the Modern Orthodox philosophy of integrating Jewish and Western thought. It serves as a leading journal in the Modern Orthodox intellectual tradition and is associated with Yeshiva University. Edited by Dr. David Shatz for the 21 years preceding July 14, 2021 (approximately 2000–2021). Volume 1 was published in 1989, Volume 12 (2004) focused on 'Dilemmas of Military Service in Israel: The Religious Dimension,' and a 2021 issue was dedicated in memory of Rabbi Norman Lamm and his wife Mindella (Mindy) Lamm.
