About
The Jewish World is a Jewish weekly newspaper founded by Sam S. Clevenson on September 23, 1965, covering the Capital District of New York (Albany area). It was previously published under the names Schenectady Jewish World and Albany Jewish World. Following Clevenson's death in 2008, publication continued under his children, Laurie Clevenson and James R. Clevenson. As of 2024, it remains Albany's only dedicated Jewish publication, issuing bi-weekly editions in print and online (PDFs available on its website). The newspaper focuses on local Jewish community news, events, global Jewish issues, Israel, and syndicates content from the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS). In 2023, it formed an alliance with Capital Region Independent Media for sales and marketing. Note: A separate 1994 book titled 'The Jewish World' by David Harris surveys contemporary Jewish issues and global diaspora dynamics and is unrelated to this newspaper.
