About
The Bridge Initiative is a multi-year research project based at Georgetown University's Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (ACMCU). Established to examine and combat Islamophobia, it focuses on mapping the networks of individuals and organizations that disseminate anti-Muslim sentiment, including tracking funding and interconnectedness of those perceived to promote anti-Muslim bias. The project provides resources for the public, such as research reports, fact sheets with documented rebuttals to common tropes and misinformation about Islam and Muslims, a 'Who's Who' database of influential figures and groups in the 'Islamophobia industry,' and original long-form reports on the impact of Islamophobia on policy, law enforcement, and social cohesion. It is led by a team of academics and researchers specialized in Islamic studies, international relations, and civil rights, including Founding Director John L. Esposito, Senior Researcher Farid Hafez, and former Associate Jordan Denari Duffner. As a project within Georgetown University, its primary funding is integrated into the ACMCU's budget, launched through a $20 million endowment from Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia in 2005, with additional support from grants and individual donations dedicated to civil rights and religious pluralism.
