About
Tamara Lich is a Canadian activist from southern Alberta who rose to national prominence as a co-organizer and spokesperson for the 2022 Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa, a trucker-led demonstration against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and public health restrictions. Prior to her involvement with the Freedom Convoy, she worked for many years in the oil sands industry as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator, which shaped her perspectives on economic issues and government regulations. Her political activism began through conservative circles, including participation in the Yellow Vest Canada protests starting in 2018 and support for the Maverick Party, a right-wing separatist group advocating for Western Canadian interests. During the Freedom Convoy protests, she was arrested on February 17, 2022, and charged with mischief, counseling mischief, and other related offenses; her trial began in 2023 and remains ongoing as of the latest reports. Post-convoy, Lich has continued her activism, speaking at events and supporting similar causes, while facing criticism for associations with extremist elements. She has been described as a polarizing figure in Canadian politics, emblematic of growing populist sentiments in Western Canada.
