About
Seymour George Epstein was a long-time employee of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, where he worked as a groundskeeper and gardener. He is best known as the father of the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Seymour lived a largely private, middle-class life in Sea Gate, a gated community in Coney Island, Brooklyn, along with his wife Pauline and their two sons. He was known within his community for his work ethic and involvement in local labor union activities associated with his municipal employment. Following his retirement, he remained in New York until his death in 1991. While he did not possess the immense wealth or public profile later acquired by his son Jeffrey, his background has been frequently scrutinized by journalists seeking to understand the family dynamics and early influences of the Epstein family.
