About
Scott John Morrison, born on 13 May 1968 in Waverley, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, is an Australian politician who served as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia from August 2018 to May 2022. He led the centre-right Liberal Party of Australia during his tenure and was known for his conservative governance and media-friendly approach. Morrison grew up in a politically engaged family; his father, John Morrison, was a police chief inspector who later became an independent politician, serving 16 years on the Waverley Municipal Council and as mayor. His mother is Marion. From a young age, Morrison showed interest in politics, beginning at age nine by distributing 'how-to-vote' cards in support of his father. He also had a brief career as a child actor, appearing in television commercials and small roles in local shows.
Morrison attended Sydney Boys High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science honours degree in applied economic geography from the University of New South Wales. His early professional career involved roles in business, tourism, and policy, before he entered federal politics as the Member of Parliament for Cook in 2007. He held several ministerial positions, including Minister for Immigration and Border Protection and Treasurer, prior to becoming Prime Minister following the 2019 federal election. Morrison's leadership was marked by responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, economic challenges, and foreign policy issues, though his time in office was also controversial, including criticism over bushfire response and gender equality policies.
After losing the 2022 election, Morrison left the prime ministership but remains a prominent figure in Australian conservative politics. He continues to be involved in public discourse and has reflected on his experiences in memoirs and interviews.
