About
The Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG), formerly known as Saudi Research and Marketing Group until a rename in May 2021, is a Saudi-owned media conglomerate with close ties to the Saudi government, embedding it deeply in state institutions. It evolved from the Saudi Research and Publishing Company established in 1972, with roots tracing to the 1963 founding of Al Madina Printing and Publication Company in Jeddah. SRMG became a limited liability company on August 29, 1987, and a joint-stock company in 2000, listing on the Tadawul stock exchange on April 8, 2006, under symbol 4210. Headquartered in Riyadh's King Abdullah Financial District since a 2022 announcement, it operates as the Middle East's largest integrated media group, employing over 1,900 people across 18 offices in 11 countries, reaching 172 million across 4 continents in 7 languages. Ownership is dominated by Al Ahli Capital Fund 13, managed by NCB Capital (asset arm of state-owned Saudi National Bank, majority-held by Public Investment Fund). Leadership includes CEO Jomana R. Al-Rashid (appointed October 2020, first woman in the role) and board member Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib (Saudi Minister of Tourism), with past chairmen including King Salman's sons Prince Turki bin Salman (2013-2014) and Prince Badr bin Salman. It formed an independent board of trustees in 2008, the first for an Arab media firm, and focuses on data-driven strategies through SRMG Media Solutions launched in 2025. SRMG publishes over 30 titles including Asharq Al-Awsat, Arab News, Al Eqtisadiah, The Majalla, and Urdu News, alongside digital platforms, TV channels like Asharq News, and partnerships with Bloomberg, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Billboard Arabia. It maintains offices in UAE (Dubai), Egypt (Cairo), Jordan (Amman), Lebanon (Beirut), Morocco (Rabat), USA (Washington DC), UK, France, India, and Pakistan, supporting global expansion in advertising (via Al-Khaleejiah), distribution (Saudi Distribution Co.), and printing (Hala Printing Press). Revenues stem from advertising, publishing, printing, distribution, and PR, with a 2023 net profit of SAR 551.5 million in the first 9 months. Known for its influence campaigns in the U.S. and Europe, SRMG funded Egyptian news channels in 2022 via partnership with Egypt's General Intelligence Service-owned United Media Services.
