Ronen Bar (born December 24, 1965) is an Israeli intelligence officer who served as Director of the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) from October 13, 2021, to June 15, 2025. He was appointed by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on October 11, 2021, with cabinet approval, succeeding Nadav Argaman. Bar previously served as deputy director of Shin Bet since 2018. His career has focused on internal security, counterterrorism, and surveillance operations, with reported ties to Unit 8200, Israel's elite signals intelligence unit. In March 2025, he was fired, but the decision was suspended by the High Court of Israel. He subsequently submitted his resignation in April 2025, which took effect on June 15, 2025, ending his tenure amid legal and political controversies. As head of Shin Bet, he was responsible for internal security, counter-terrorism, and collaboration with military intelligence.
