About
Robert J. Avrech (born November 10, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York) is an American screenwriter, conservative blogger, and commentator on Jewish issues. He grew up in a Jewish family in New York City, attended Yeshiva of Flatbush for high school, and earned a BA in English from UCLA in 1972. He later moved to Los Angeles to establish his film career. His screenwriting credits include the 1984 neo-noir thriller Body Double (co-written, directed by Brian De Palma), the 1992 mystery film A Stranger Among Us (directed by Sidney Lumet), and his Emmy Award-winning screenplay for the 1999 television film The Devil's Arithmetic, an adaptation of Jane Yolen's Holocaust novel. In the early 2000s, he founded the blog Seraphic Secret, where he writes as an Orthodox Jew on topics including counter-jihad activism, support for Israel, criticism of radical Islam, and conservative cultural commentary. His work reflects a staunchly pro-Israel stance and opposition to Islamist extremism. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and has contributed to outlets like Big Hollywood and Pajamas Media. His personal experiences, including the loss of his son to cancer in 2010, have informed his public advocacy on pediatric oncology.
