About
Ricardo Legorreta Vilchis (1931-2011) was a renowned Mexican architect whose work spanned over five decades and included more than 100 projects worldwide. His distinctive style fused Western modernism with pre-Columbian Mexican elements, featuring vibrant colors, geometric shapes, thick masonry walls, fountains, light-filled spaces, and intimate courtyards. Notable designs encompass private residences, museums, hotels, office buildings, factories, university campuses, urban spaces, and master plans in Mexico, the United States, and other countries. He founded Legorreta Arquitectos in 1965, following early collaborations as a draftsman and project manager (1948-1955) and partner (1955-1960) with José Villagrán García, and a period of freelance work (1961-1965). Legorreta also served as a university teacher.
