About
Renée Price is an Austrian-American art curator and historian, born in Vienna, Austria, who earned her Ph.D. in art history from the University of Vienna. She serves as the Managing Director of the Neue Galerie New York since its founding in 2001 by Ronald S. Lauder. The museum, housed in a landmark building on Museum Mile, focuses on early 20th-century German and Austrian art and design, featuring works by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Otto Dix, as well as design from the Wiener Werkstätte and Bauhaus. Prior to the museum's opening, Price collaborated closely with Lauder on developing the collection and vision for the institution. Under her leadership, the Neue Galerie has organized acclaimed exhibitions, managed significant acquisitions including Lauder's collection, and expanded its public programs, publications, and Café Sabarsky, establishing it as a premier venue for Central European modernism in the United States. Price oversees all operations, from exhibitions and conservation to administration and outreach. Her deep expertise in Austrian and German art has shaped the museum's curatorial direction. Recognized for her scholarly contributions and curatorial acumen, Price maintains a low public profile focused on her professional role, with no widely reported controversies or legal issues.
