Rabbi Moshe I. Hauer (1965-2025) was a prominent American Orthodox rabbi and Torah scholar. He received semicha (rabbinic ordination) and a Doctor of Talmudic Law from Yeshivas Ner Yisroel in Baltimore, Maryland, and earned a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University. From 1994 to 2020, he served as senior rabbi of Congregation Bnai Jacob Shaarei Zion (BJSZ) in Baltimore, where he was spiritual leader for over 26 years, known for his teaching and leadership. An active Torah educator, he led a leadership training program for rabbis and communal leaders and was a founding editor of the online journal Klal Perspectives. He was married to Rebbetzin Mindi Hauer. In April 2020, Rabbi Hauer transitioned from BJSZ to become Executive Vice President of the Orthodox Union, a prominent national role he served in until his passing (zt"l). He resided in Baltimore, Maryland, with his congregation site at 6602 Park Heights Avenue. Rabbi Hauer passed away suddenly at age 60 from a heart attack at his home in Baltimore on Shemini Atzeres.
